Overview

Climb the feeding tower here and offer a giraffe a food pellet. Not only may he (or she) accept your offering, you may be rewarded with a kiss! Such occurrences are not uncommon at the Giraffe Centre, a principal sanctuary for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Started in 1979, the Centre has been responsible for saving and breeding this beautiful subspecies of giraffe. Almost extinct, they are now thriving throughout Africa thanks to the heroic efforts of founders Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville. Best known for our work to protect elephants, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. But we do much more than this.
